Starting Address is the DMX channel at which a fixture begins to read its control data. In the example of a 5‑channel fixture, the five channels occupy a sequential range of DMX channels within the 512‑channel universe defined by the DMX network layout. While the channel functions are predetermined by the manufacturer, the Starting Address is chosen by the operator or programmer. It is the address used when setting the fixture and is typically configured via DIP switches or an LED/LCD display menu.
